Clinton County Human Rights Commission

Human Rights Commission General Duties:

  • To foster mutual respect and understanding among all racial, religious and nationality groups in the County
  • To inquire into the incidence of tension and conflict among or between various racial, religious and nationality groups
  • To conduct and recommend such educational programs as, in the judgment of the Commission, will increase goodwill among the inhabitants of the community and open new opportunities into all phases of community life for all inhabitants
  • To report complaints to the New York State Division of Human Rights, alleging any lawful discriminatory practices under Article 15 and the Executive Law. 

 

 

New York State Constitution

The New York State Constitution, adopted and approved by the vote of the citizens of New York on November 8, 1938, provides that "No person shall be denied the equal protection of the laws of this State or any subdivision thereof. No person shall, because of race, color, creed, or religion, be subjected to any discrimination in his civil rights by any other person or by any firm, corporation or institution, or by the State or any agency or subdivision of the State."
