Clinton County Historian's Office

Old stone barracks at former Airforce base Plattsburgh, NY

Welcome!

Researchers interested in topics ranging from genealogy to geology, commerce to fraternal organizations, New York State laws to local lawmakers, farm life to industrialization, military service to scrapbooks, and newspapers to photographs will find records in this office.  Designed to collect, record, and preserve the history of Clinton County, the Historian’s Office maintains archival holdings for virtually every facet of the county’s history.  Along with a library of secondary sources related to local, state, and national history, we preserve significant primary sources, including: the correspondence and notes of Judge Healey; the records of the Clinton County Jail and Poorhouse; the blueprints, photographs, and selected records of the Plattsburgh Air Force Base; the blueprints, photographs, and reminiscences of the Clinton County Government Center; various local scrapbooks, photograph albums, and postcards; various local ledgers (private and commercial); and various correspondence (personal and legal) between local citizens.

All of our materials are available for public use in our office. Please visit us on Mondays through Fridays, from 9:30 to 1:00, or schedule an appointment by phone or e-mail. Questions may also be directed to us by phone or e-mail; we will happily suggest ways to find information or resources, though we are unable to conduct extensive personal research.
