Let’s learn the history behind some of the most famous monuments in the world – The Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty and maybe we will draw a few of our own!

P.T. Barnum’s circus began its first tour of the US on or around this day in 1835. 

Let’s reminisce about our visits to the circus and our favorite thing there!

On this day in 1738, King George III was born.  What do you associate with him – you might have said the American Revolution & more

We celebrate both Milton Berle, the emcee for the Texaco Star Theatre which premiered on this day in 1948 and Joan Rivers the comedian who was born on this day in 1933.  We’ll learn more about both & tell some jokes too!

    BOOK DAY

 

On this day in 1790, nine days following the signing of the Copyright Act, The Philadelphia Spelling Book was copyrighted.  Let’s talk spelling and see who our super-speller is!

 

10  BLACK COW DAY

 

 

Frank J. Wisner, owner of Cripple Creek Brewing, served the 1st Black Cow root beer float in Cripple Creek Colorado, in 1893.  We’ll enjoy “black cows” today and learn about different breeds of dairy cows too.

11  KING KAMEHAMEHA

      DAY

 

We honor Kamehameha the Great the monarch who first established the unified Kingdom of Hawaii.  We will do a Hawaiian craft and have a pineapple snack!

12  WORLD RED ROSE DAY

 

 

We will learn more about roses and the Language of Roses.  We will learn about how many we should send, how to draw them and maybe do some puzzles about roses, too!

 

13  IT’S KITCHEN

      KLUTZES DAY

 

We will check out recipes with no more than four ingredients and see if we can come up with a list of 100 things found in a kitchen.

14  FLAG DAY

 

 

We will learn more about our flag, solve some puzzles and have a coloring/painting project, too.

 

15  WORLDWIDE DAY OF

      GIVING

 

It’s a day for volunteering!  Did you volunteer in the past?  How can we volunteer now?  And we will share some famous quotes on volunteering.

16  GOT MILK? DAY

 

 

We will do some puzzles, talk about other advertising slogans, share some facts about milk and maybe take pictures of you with a milk mustache!

17  A “PURR-FECT” DAY

 

 

Do you like cats?  What was your cat’s name?  We will reminisce, do some puzzles and watch some “purr-fect”

shows!

 

18  NURSING ASSISTANTS

      DAY

 

We thank our nursing assistants for all they do!  We might get creative today and make some cards.

 

19 GUY LOMBARDO’S BIRTH

     ANNIVERSARY

 

This bandleader was born on this day in 1902.  We will find out facts about him and see how many other bandleaders you can name today.

A great day to remind all fathers and father figures how much we appreciate them!  We will reminisce,  enjoy some ice cream sundaes and do some puzzles!

22  BLUE BUTTERFLY DAY

 

 

If you see a blue butterfly today, it will bring you luck!  We will learn some fun facts, do a word search and maybe a craft.

23 PINK FLAMINGO DAY

 

 

We honor the work of Don Featherstone, creator of the plastic lawn flamingo!  Let’s talk lawn decorations, find out more about flamingos and play a game or two.

 

24  INTERNATIONAL FAIRY

      DAY

 

We celebrate the stories, magic and history of fairies.  We will learn the history and make some crafts too!

 

25  HAPPY BIRTHDAY,

      BASKETBALL BALL

 

The game was played since the late 19th century, but there was not a patent for the actual basketball until 1929.  Let’s talk hoops, favorite teams and did you play?

26  NATIONAL CANOE DAY

 

 

We will take a virtual tour and learn how to draw a canoe today!

We will reminisce about some marriage customs, do some puzzles and maybe watch a video

We will reminisce about summertime fun today.  Did you enjoy camping?  How about canoeing or nature walks?

We will learn more about tropical biodiversity, maybe do a tropical puzzle and take a tropical virtual tour!
