If you have limited income you may be able to get help to pay your Medicare costs

In New York State to qualify for a Medicare Savings Program you must meet the following income guidelines:

Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB):

Monthly Income Limits:

$1,032 - single person 

$1,392 - married & living together
 

  • Helps pay for Medicare Part A and/or B premiums, coinsurance and deductibles
  • QMB’s - has no retroactivity
 

Specified Low Income Medicare Beneficiary Program (SLIMB):

Monthly Income Limits:

$1,234 - single person

$1,666 - married & living together

  • Helps pay Medicare part B premium
  • Must have Medicare part A in order to be eligible for program
  • SLIMB's - 3 months retroactive

 

Qualified Individual (QI):

Monthly Income Limits:

$1,386 - single person

$1,872 - married & living together

  • Pays for Medicare Part B premium
  • Must have Medicare part A in order to be eligible for program
  • QI's - 3 month retroactive not in to previous calendar year

 

The standard $20 monthly income disregard has been included in these guidelines

**If you have income from working you may qualify for benefits even if your income is higher than the limits above - Income earned from working is counted at less than half**

NYS has no resource guidelines for Medicare Savings Programs
