DESCRIPTION OF DEPARTMENT

     The office of the Clinton County Historian is involved with collecting, recording and preserving the history of the area, providing information and services to Town & Village Historians, historical organizations, schools, colleges and the general public. The office maintains an extensive on-site resource library and files of historical compilations that relate to all aspects of Clinton County and its families. There are: surname files, subject matter files, books, pamphlets, maps and Federal Census Schedules from 1790 through 1920. The McLELLAN CEMETERY RECORDS OF CLINTON COUNTY, THE ISLANDS OF THE LAKE along with the new compilations of Clyde Rabideau, Sr, with index, are available to the public. Researchers may make appointments to access these materials. The historian will be glad to make suggestions for directions of research, but regrets that it is beyond the scope of the office to conduct personal research.
