Child Protective Services

Child Protective Services is mandated to investigate all reports of alleged child abuse and maltreatment of children under the age of 18. Investigations must commence within 24 hours of receipt of a report from the New York State Central Register for Child Abuse and Maltreatment. Investigation of a Child Protective Services report is a fact finding process including interviews, observation and information gathering.

Services include:

bulletDetermination of the validity of the allegations
bulletEvaluation of other conditions of abuse or maltreatment not included in the report
bulletDetermination of services necessary to ensure protection of the child and reduce the risk factors which may contribute to future harm
bulletReferral for appropriate community services
bulletLegal intervention if necessary
bulletCoordinate investigations of abuse
bulletEducation of mandated reporters
