PRESS RELEASE: CCPT Moves to New Location; No Disruption in Service

Clinton County Public Transit (CCPT) will be moving to it’s new location at 226 Arizona Avenue, located on the former Plattsburgh Airforce Base.  There will be no interruption in the services provided by CCPT and the phone numbers will remain the same.

Plattsburgh, NY - October 26, 2009  -- Beginning Monday November 2, 2009 Clinton County’s bus system, CCPT will begin operating out of it’s new facility located at 226 Arizona Avenue.  Riders can expect the busses to continue their service without interruption.  Similarly, the office and dispatch will continue to run during the same hours.
The move to this new facility is a culmination of a 5 year project by Clinton County to rehabilitate a former US Air Force building into the public bus system’s headquarters and garage.  The new building will have 3 service bays, 1 drive through wash bay, offices, a parts room, and a conference/training room.  Riders can expect no disruption in service.  However, if there are concerns, they can contact the Clinton County Planning Office at (518) 561-4711.
About CCPT:
CCPT, formerly known as CART, began its operation on Valentine’s Day 1983 with three 12-passenger vans going out to rural locations that served a total of 7,215 passengers.  It has since expanded to 16 vehicles in its fleet including 2 senior and 2 paratransit busses.  Routes include three in the city of Plattsburgh as well as rural routes to Rouses Point, Champlain, Mooers, Churubusco, AuSable, Riverview, Standish, Peru and a number of other places within Clinton County serving approximately 150,000 passengers yearly.

Route & System Update

Clinton County Public Transit (CCPT) is in the process of updating its routes in order to better serve our patrons.  It is a long process that has involved coordination and communication with many organizations including, but not limited to: Clinton County Economic Collaborative (CCEC) Public Transit Initiative; Clinton Community College; Champlain Centre Mall; and, First Transit, Inc.  Additionally, information from rider surveys, routes audits, employer and employee surveys, transit forums and many other venues has served to round out the suggestions for change and improvement.  An overall system update has not occurred for more than five years.  It is a long process that we hope to have completed by the end of September to coincide with the opening of our new transit facility.  During this time, we will not post route schedules on the website as we do not want our riders to have incorrect information.  If you need route information, please call Dispatch at (518) 561-1452.  You may also obtain schedules from the Information Desk as the Champlain Centre Mall; the Clinton County Planning Department located at 135 Margaret Street in downtown Plattsburgh; and from any of the bus drivers.

Clinton County Public Transit Facility (CCPTF)

Clinton County Public Transit (CCPT) is rehabilitating the former Education Center building on PARC to become our new transit facility.   The new transit facility will have three maintenance/service bays as well as a wash bay.  The facility will provide a place for NYSDOT inspections to occur, our own fuel station, and many other amenities that will allow us to extend the useful life of our fleet.  The process to convert this building began in 2003 and we hope to have it completed by the end of September 2009.  This combined with many other changes will serve to enhance the CCPT system, making it better able to serve its patrons and provide reliable transit.
